Stock Market News From Aug. 13, 2026: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq Rise; Micron, Super Micro, Cisco, More Movers; PPI Inflation Report

The S&P 500 cruised through the latest round of earnings reports and inflation data to close at a record high on Thursday.

The market benchmark rose 0.7% to top its closing high from Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 70 points, or 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.8%.

Artificial intelligence stocks were once again at the vanguard, but a broad collection of S&P 500 stocks closed higher.

A majority of S&P 500 stocks and sectors rose. Communication services, real estate, tech, and consumer staples all had big days. The S&P 500’s top 10 was a mix of software and chip stocks.

Workday got a big boost from a report from Reuters, which cited people familiar with the matter and said the firm was in talks to sell to Silver Lake. Sandisk also boosted memory stocks by providing an ambitious long-term forecast at its annual investor day.

The rest of the market sailed higher after the week’s second big inflation report, the producer price index, came in cooler than feared.

“In our view, a combination of strong earnings growth and stable labor market and consumption trends continues to underpin stock market gains,” writes Edward Jones head of investment strategy Mona Mahajan. “While inflation does not seem to be reaccelerating, which is a step in the right direction, investors will be monitoring one more set of inflation data in September, which we believe will be critical ahead of the September FOMC meeting.”

Traders now see a 65.4% chance that the Federal Reserve opts to keep interest rates steady at its September policy meeting. Odds of no hike this year have more-than-doubled to 33.6% in the past week from 15.5% a week ago.
