Stock Market Today Highlights, June 25: Sensex crosses 77,100 as Nifty ends above 24,000 in cautious trade

ensex Today, Nifty 50 | Stock Market Highlights: The Sensex closed at 77,100.47, rising 109.25 points or 0.14 per cent, while the Nifty 50 ended at 24,056.00, up 34.35 points or 0.14 per cent, supported by easing crude oil prices, which fell back to pre-Iran conflict levels, and recent policy measures aimed at strengthening the rupee and attracting overseas inflows.
The Indian rupee also ended the session on a slightly stronger note and posted marginal weekly gains, buoyed by softer oil prices, improving foreign portfolio inflows and supportive domestic measures. However, gains were capped by caution over the outlook for U.S. interest rates. The rupee appreciated about 0.3 per cent on the day to close at 94.3950 and was nearly flat for the week.

Auto stocks surge as crude crashes; market closes flat ahead of Muharram holiday
Sarvam Goel, Founder, Pocketful
“Thursday’s session told a clear story, even if the headline numbers did not fully capture it. Crude oil has now crashed nearly 37% from its May peak. Tankers are moving through the Strait of Hormuz again. The geopolitical risk premium that crushed Indian markets for months is unwinding.
Auto was the market’s shout of joy. When fuel prices fall, everything around wheels wins, be it passenger cars, commercial vehicles, or aviation. The sector’s rally today was not a trade, it was a re-rating.
Metals and oil & gas went the other way. Cheaper crude hurts upstream energy companies directly. Global commodity weakness is doing the rest to metals. Both are external stories, not India-specific.
The broader breadth turned negative by close. Expiry-day volatility played its role, and some profit-booking after recent gains was natural.
Markets are closed tomorrow for Muharram. Investors have a long weekend to sit with one thought, India just got its biggest macro tailwind of 2026. Use it wisely.”

Colin Shah, MD, Kama Jewelry, on price drop of gold and silver
The price correction in both gold and silver is the result of a mix of dollar strength and higher expectations of additional hikes in U.S. rates, which have been a drag on investor appetite for non-yielding assets like gold and silver. The near-term trend can still be volatile, particularly silver after the steep drop, but this doesn’t necessarily affect the overall dynamics.
Periods like these typically tend to attract value buying, particularly in physical-demand led markets like India when prices soften. Having said that, this drop in prices still looks more of a healthy correction than a structural break, and the long-term fundamentals are still bullish for precious metals”

Ajay Sirikonda, Partner and Leader – Financial Services Risk Management, EY India:
“The RBI’s draft guidance is a welcome step that finally gives Indian banks a clear playbook for model and AI risk. In some ways it goes further than the UK’s PRA or the US regulators — it brings AI, third-party models and consumer protection into one frame. But clarity is the easy part. The harder shift is execution. The banks that treat this as infrastructure, are the ones that will lead.
The guidelines have a channelling effect on AI use cases. The guidance does add governance & explainability friction – but mostly where the stakes are highest, around credit, pricing and autonomous decisions. Elsewhere, it removes the bigger blocker: uncertainty. Banks have sat on AI not just because it was costly, but also because no one had said what was allowed. This guidelines says it. For most use cases, that is an accelerant, not a constraint”

Apna MSME Hiring Pulse 2026 : India’s MSMEs are Hiring more and Hiring Differently
On MSME Day, Apna, India’s leading AI-native early-career talent platform shared insights from their platform analytics on hiring, workforce participation and skill demand across its platform. The analysis suggests that India’s MSMEs are entering a new phase of growth, where businesses are not only hiring more but also hiring differently as they expand, adopt digital capabilities, and seek a more future-ready workforce.
MSME hiring on the platform increased by 25% in FY26 and continues to maintain momentum into FY27. The growth was broad-based, driven by both more businesses entering the hiring ecosystem and existing employers expanding recruitment. At the same time, demand for jobs requiring AI-related skills grew by 164% in FY26, signalling that MSMEs are increasingly investing in digital capabilities as they scale their businesses.
The analysis also highlights how India’s workforce is becoming more geographically distributed. While nearly two-thirds of MSME job demand remains concentrated in Tier-1 city clusters (68% in FY26), reflecting the continued strength of established business centres, workforce participation is increasingly expanding beyond metropolitan markets. Tier-2 cities accounted for 30% of all applicants in FY26, signalling the growing contribution of non-metro talent to India’s formal workforce. Tier-3 markets represent the next significant opportunity. These markets accounted for nearly 20% of active users but only 5% of applications, highlighting strong workforce interest that is yet to fully translate into formal employment.
Emerging hiring clusters such as Surat, Rajkot, Nagpur and Raipur are gaining momentum alongside established centres including Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai and Delhi, reflecting the broadening footprint of India’s MSME economy.

BRICS Workshop on Labour Mobility, Population Ageing and Pension Resilience Held under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026.
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026, successfully organised a virtual BRICS Workshop on Labour Mobility, Population Ageing and Pension Resilience on 23 June 2026.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chairman, PFRDA, who highlighted the growing importance of retirement security in the context of population ageing, increasing longevity, changing employment patterns, and expanding labour mobility across countries. He emphasised the need for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable pension systems capable of addressing the evolving needs of workers and retirees.

Investing in Climate Resilience Could helping Avert $28 billion in Potential Losses: Zurich Kotak General Insurance
According to a new report released today by Zurich Kotak General Insurance and Zurich Resilience Solutions, the risk advisory division of Zurich Insurance, a targeted upfront investment of just 2% of capital expenditure (CapEx) in climate resilience measures across India’s planned renewable energy pipeline could cut potential climate-related losses by half, from USD 55 billion to USD 27 billion, an estimated saving of USD 28 billion, equating to a 6x return on investment.
The findings point to a significant opportunity for policymakers, investors, developers, lenders and insurers to protect the renewable energy build-out as climate hazards intensify. India became the world’s third-largest renewable energy capacity holder in 2026, with installed non-fossil capacity reaching 283.5 GW by March. Renewable generation is expanding at around 11% annually, keeping India on track towards its national 2030 target of 500 GW from non-fossil sources.
The study draws on data from 871 planned renewable energy generation sites, accounting for 90% of India’s renewable energy capacity. These are spread across 10 states and union territories – Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Stock market live: Brent crude slide boosts Indian market outlook
Rajeev Sharan, Head of Research, Brickwork Ratings .
“Brent crude slipping to around USD 73 per barrel marks a sharp reset in the global commodity narrative driven by geopolitical de-escalation rather than demand weakness. The resumption of vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, following the US-Iran ceasefire agreement, is unwinding a supply disruption that had compressed Persian Gulf oil exports by nearly 85% at its peak. For India, as the world’s third-largest crude importer, this is clearly positive as every USD10 per barrel decline in oil prices reduces India’s annual import bill by approximately USD 12 to 15 billion, easing pressure on the current account and giving the Reserve Bank of India greater room to keep borrowing costs supportive of growth. Domestic markets have responded with conviction, with the Sensex pressing above 77,000 and the Nifty firming around 24,100 on June 25, with auto, aviation, and logistics stocks leading the gains. The near-term outlook for Indian equities looks positive, provided crude stabilises in the USD 70 to 75 range and the monsoon does not disappoint.”

Expert View | Renisha Chainani, head of research at Augmont
Price Movement – Gold and Silver are extending their losing streak despite a temporary US-Iran ceasefire offering limited relief, caught between multiple headwinds. A sharp selloff in AI stocks has triggered a broad risk-off wave spilling into precious metals. The Federal Reserve’s hawkish tone has pushed expectations of a rate hike higher, lifting the Dollar Index above 101 and pressuring gold. Meanwhile, the unwinding of yen carry trades, as USDJPY weakens on rising Japanese rates, is adding further stress across safe-haven assets.
Interest Rate Probability – Markets now assign a sharply higher probability to a Fed rate hike as early as September, up significantly from a week ago. This repricing, combined with a stronger dollar and softening inflation expectations, is weighing heavily on precious metals.
Macro-Economic Signals – Investors await Thursday’s US PCE inflation data, the Fed’s preferred gauge, for further policy direction. While central bank buying is expected to remain supportive, persistent inflation concerns are likely to cap demand and keep near-term risks skewed to the downside.
Technical Triggers – Gold has broken the key $4,000 support and is trending lower, with the next support zone significantly below current levels. Silver has also breached the $60 level and remains under pressure, with further downside risk if momentum continues. Oversold conditions, however, leave room for intermittent short-covering rebounds.

China’s primary deficit is being replenished through scrap, with secondary consumption at 13.35mt in 2025.
As Middle East risk premium unwinds, aluminum prices look vulnerable
With aluminum prices vulnerable to an $800/t fall, current valuations of NALCO, Vedanta Aluminum, & Hindalco Industries look stretched
Therefore, remain negative, with a 30–40% downside risk likely

CLSA on SBI
O-P, TP Rs 1275
Management meet takeaways
Loan growth has been robust for system driven by both retail and corporate demand
Bank is tactical on corporate lending side, as it aims to deliver profitable growth.
Management is confident in achieving its 3% NIM target for FY27 driven by the repricing of T-bill linked loans
Recent boost by RBI on FCNR (B) deposits will boost system liquidity, though it may not make a big difference to SBI’s margins.
Asset quality remains strong despite macro issues on the geopolitical front
Only area management is concerned about is El Nino—if monsoons are notably below average, it would hamper rural demand

MS on Adani Power
OW, TP raised to Rs 275
APL’s incremental business is much lower risk (macro), highly return accretive (micro), fastest growing (vs. history and peers) & backed by a track record of executing complex projects
This is a rare combination which merits closer attention by markets
APL’s portfolio is transforming from “PLF on PPA + merchant upside” to “Annuity on PPA with stronger spreads + smaller merchant quotient”
Said differently APL will make annuity returns on most of its 24GW under construction capacity (EBITDA: Rs3.5/ kwh and fuel pass through)
This change must be viewed in context of its execution track record on commissioning (vs peers), strong leverage position (vs history peers) & benefits of pre-ordering equipment (to BHEL and L&T)
In hindsight, pre-ordered equipment is 10-30% lower on capex cost (at Rs100mn/MW) vs peers, which allows greater flexibility in bidding for upcoming PPAs of 14GW across
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Gujarat
Key Risks: Weaker demand (lower merchant F27-28); commissioning delays, capex inflation, & discom receivable build-up.

RBI’s final norms for NBFC Upper Layer (UL) classification broadly aligns with draft, simplifying UL classification to Rs1trn+ asset threshold & bringing govt owned NBFC-IFCs into scope. However, it has relaxed connected counterparty limit for NBFC-UL IFCs to 45% of Tier 1 cap (35% presently).
Large IFCs/ Power Financiers (in Middle Layer now) can move to UL with a tighter cap vs. its existing 50% cap, but less onerous than implied per current UL norms.

Bitcoin approaches $60,000 amid profit taking and market volatility
“Bitcoin’s move towards the $60,000 level reflects a combination of profit booking by large holders, softer market sentiment and a broader reassessment of positioning across digital assets. While near term volatility has increased, the market is also witnessing selective resilience in segments with strong fundamentals, suggesting that capital is becoming more discerning rather than exiting the ecosystem altogether. Such phases are typical of maturing markets where investors increasingly differentiate between short term momentum and long term value creation.”
For investors, this is a period that calls for discipline and perspective. Reacting to every market swing often results in missed opportunities and inefficient decision-making. Investors should focus on portfolio diversification, maintain adequate liquidity and consider staggered allocations if they have a long term investment horizon. Corrections are a natural part of market cycles, and those who remain focused on fundamentals, adoption trends and long term growth drivers are generally better positioned to navigate periods of uncertainty.” – Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42

Market analysis by Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com
The crypto market seems to be caught between improving long-term fundamentals and persistent short-term caution. Bitcoin is trading around $60,800, roughly 43% below its 2025 peak of about $106,000. Institutional demand has softened in the short term, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs recording a further net outflow of $229.7 million on June 24, even as cumulative net inflows since launch remain above $53 billion.
The biggest immediate level to watch is $60,000. That price has evolved from a psychological marker into a structural support level. A sustained break below it could expose Bitcoin to $59,000 and then the $54,000-$50,000 zone. On the upside, Bitcoin must reclaim $63,000-$65,500 before attempting a move towards $66,000-$68,000, where significant selling interest has emerged in recent weeks.
On-chain data paints a more balanced picture than price action suggests. Bitcoin’s net unrealised profit/loss (NUPL) stands near 0.20, placing the market in the ‘Hope/Fear’ phase rather than capitulation. Network activity remains resilient even as prices remain well below their previous highs, suggesting long-term holders continue to accumulate while speculative activity has cooled considerably.

Expert View | Gaurav Udani – Founder, ThinCredBlu Securities
Nifty is expected to open slightly higher around 24,100, up nearly 70 points, indicating a positive start to the session.
The index continues to trade above the crucial 24,000 level, which remains an important support for the short-term trend. Holding above this zone keeps the broader structure constructive and supports the possibility of further upside.
Technically, 24,200–24,300 remains the immediate resistance range. A sustained move above this zone could attract fresh buying interest and strengthen momentum. On the downside, 23,900–24,000 will act as the key support area.
While the opening sentiment is positive, traders should continue to watch price action near resistance levels, as the market has previously faced selling pressure in this zone.

Japan’s Nikkei rises over 3.5% as AI shares rally on Micron forecast
Japan’s Nikkei share average jumped more than 3.5% on Thursday as AI-related shares surged after U.S. memory chipmaker Micron’s upbeat quarterly profit and revenue forecast.
The Nikkei was up 3.72% at 71,754.53, as of 0159 GMT, set to snap two consecutive sessions of declines, if the current momentum holds. The broader Topix rose 1.34% to 4,016.71.
The recent downturn in tech-heavy Nikkei followed a sharp decline in semiconductor firm SK Hynix earlier this week.
Micron, a key supplier for Nvidia AI processors alongside South Korean chipmakers, forecast quarterly profit and revenue well above expectations and said customers had committed $22 billion to secure memory chip supply, sending its shares surging 12% in after-hours trade on Wednesday.
Shares of SK Hynix, also a supplier to Nvidia, rose as much as 11.1% in early morning trade on Thursday. (Reuters)
