U.S. stocks rallied on August 3, 2026, while oil prices slid as investors reacted to signs of easing U.S.-Iran tensions and a reduced geopolitical risk premium. Major indexes were higher, with the Dow up more than 600 points intraday and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also advancing.

The Nasdaq Composite (COMP:IND) led the rise, gaining 2.3%, while the Nasdaq-100 (NDX) advanced 2%, illustrating strong demand for large growth caps.

The rise in big tech stocks coincided with a sharp 6% decline in crude oil (CL1:COM) prices, which fell back below $80 a barrel. Market participants also assessed President Donald Trump’s comments about plans to strike Tehran.

Among the biggest Nasdaq-100 gainers on August 3 were CoreWeave (+17.1%), Nebius Group (+16.2%), Lumentum Holdings (+9.7%), and Sandisk (+7.8%) leading the session.

CoreWeave and Nebius were standout movers in AI-linked names, while Lumentum and Sandisk also participated in the broader risk-on rally.

In addition, JPMorgan Chase said it will deploy more than $750 billion through 2035 to expand U.S. housing supply and support homeownership, including financing 1 million affordable housing units and helping 500,000 people buy homes. The initiative also targets 200,000 first-time homebuyers and would lift mortgage lending by more than 40%.

What moved markets

Oil fell sharply after reports that the U.S. held off on a fresh strike on Iran, with Brent around $83 to $84 and WTI around $79 to $80.

Lower oil prices helped ease inflation worries, which supported equities, especially big tech and other growth stocks.

Futures were already pointing higher at the open, with S&P 500 futures up 0.6% and Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.2%

On August 3, spot gold was around $4,067.06 per ounce and spot silver was around $58.01 per ounce in U.S. dollar terms.

European stock markets

European stocks were broadly steady to slightly weaker on August 3, with the STOXX 50 and STOXX 600 hovering around the flatline after the previous session’s tech-led losses.

Investors were watching U.S.-Iran negotiations and the upcoming Micron earnings release for semiconductor-sector cues.

Aerospace and defense stocks were among the weaker areas in the region.

The euro-area benchmark EU50 was quoted around 6,429, up 1.11% on the session in the cited market feed.

In London, the FTSE 100 was around 10,562, up 0.75% in the latest snapshot shown by the London Stock Exchange.
