Walmart is planning to launch a sub-$25 fashion brand targeting Gen Z and millennials to recapture apparel spending lost to Amazon.
-
The move comes as Walmart seeks stronger discretionary sales amid slower store traffic and growing competition in online fashion.

Deutsche Bank and DA Davidson both cut Walmart’s price targets.
Walmart, Inc.’s (WMT) stock is heading for its fourth straight month of losses as investors digest weaker store traffic and concerns over consumer spending. The retail giant is now leaning on Scenario, a new fashion brand featuring trend-driven apparel and accessories priced below $25, to attract younger shoppers and capture discretionary dollars currently going to rivals.
Walmart’s Fashion Push
The Wall Street Journal report said Walmart is planning to launch Scenario, an apparel and accessories label built around trend-focused merchandise priced below $25. The move comes as Walmart works to strengthen discretionary categories while responding to changing shopping habits and pressure on physical-store traffic.
The scenario is designed to appeal to Gen Z and millennial customers. Walmart aims to keep more fashion purchases within its own ecosystem rather than losing those dollars to rivals such as Amazon (AMZN) and traditional apparel chains.
The strategy comes as Walmart wades through mixed trends across its retail business. During its fiscal second quarter (Q2) 2027, total revenue reached $187.9 billion, a 5.9% climb from last year. U.S. e-commerce sales rose 24%, while comparable U.S. sales excluding fuel increased only 2.6%.
Despite the gains, physical-store traffic has become a key investor focus. Walmart reported a 1.5% increase in comparable traffic. Fashion-focused offerings such as Scenario could help increase store visits while also encouraging shoppers to add more discretionary products to online orders.
Amazon became a bigger player than Walmart in U.S. clothing by offering more choices, fast Prime shipping, easy returns and personalized shopping suggestions. Younger customers favored Amazon for affordable, stylish clothes, while Walmart focused more on basic clothing and struggled to build a strong online fashion business.
Walmart stock edged 0.02% higher overnight on Sunday. The retailer saw its shares plummet 10% over the week, clocking its worst in four years.
