Man charged after £450,000 cannabis farm uncovered in property


A MAN has been charged after police officers located a large-scale cannabis grow in Kirkby Stephen yesterday worth almost half a million pounds.

Officers from Eden’s neighbourhood policing team and Westmorland and Furness’s community and serious organised crime (CSOC) unit carried out a warrant at an address in the town’s Market Square on July 1.

Searches at the property unveiled a cannabis farm within the address where plants were valued at £450,000, according to Cumbria Police.

Agim Cjapi, 32 of Market Street, Kirkby Stephen, has been charged with producing a controlled Class B drug.

He is due to appear before South Cumbria Magistrates Court today (July 2).

The seizure and investigation forms part of forms part of Operation Alliance – Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing response to protect the county against serious and organised crime.
