Called Amulet Specialty, the business will be led by cofounders Paul Bennett and Jonathan Dermody.

Bennett, who will hold the role of chief executive, brings 48 years of experience across the UK insurance market, having held senior executive and underwriting roles.

Meanwhile, Dermody will serve as chief underwriting officer. He joins from Talisman Specialty, where he was underwriting director responsible for establishing the UK property and casualty offering.

Bennett said: “We founded Amulet on the principles of dependability and integrity.

“The business is built around a core team of experts, who are supported by smart technology to be responsive, reliable partners to our brokers and their customers. We understand that insurance is a people business, which is why long-term partnerships remain at the heart of our approach.”

’Clear focus’

Amulet said its approach ”delivers specialist underwriting expertise, supported by technology that strips out unnecessary administration and frees the team up to focus on building broker relationships and delivering the best client outcomes”.

It is backed by Mission, which currently supports a portfolio of more than 30 MGAs in the UK and US.

Ross Dingwall, chief executive at Mission, said: “At Mission, we empower talented underwriters to create MGAs that are agile, quick to respond to customer needs and built on standout, sector-specific experience.

”Bennett and Dermody have a proven working partnership founded on complementary strengths, shared market understanding and a clear focus on building specialist underwriting books and I am delighted to welcome them to the Mission team.”
