South Belfast security alert: Two arrested following property search


Police sealed off roads in South Belfast amid a ‘security alert’ and two people were arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The PSNI remains at the scene in the Roosevelt Street area on July 9, however cordons have been lifted and residents have now been allowed to return to their homes.

A police statement said: “Multiple items have been recovered and removed for further examination as specialist officers continue to search a property.

“Two people, a man and a woman both aged 37, remain in custody this morning.”

South Belfast Local Policing Inspector Stallard said: “We appreciate the inconvenience caused to residents when they were out of their homes, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation as this public safety operation was conducted.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 9 09/07/26.
