Amazon has signed four new power purchase agreements (PPAs) for wind power projects in Sweden, adding almost 200 MW of new carbon-free energy capacity to the country. The investments are part of the company’s target to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2040.
Once all the projects are fully operational, Amazon will have invested in nearly 1 GW of wind power capacity in Sweden, equivalent to 985 MW and enough to supply the annual electricity consumption of more than 350,000 households.
“These new investments in wind power demonstrate our long-term commitment to Sweden and the communities where we operate,” said Gülfem Toygar, Managing Director of Amazon Sweden. “By investing in wind power, we are not only powering our own business, but also adding entirely new carbon-free energy sources to the electricity grid that we all depend on.”
Four new projects in Sweden
The four agreements bring Amazon’s total investments to nine large-scale wind power projects in Sweden, with an estimated combined capacity of 985 MW. The projects are being developed by two Nordic renewable energy companies, OX2 and Eolus, across central and southern Sweden.
The new investments cover the following projects:
- Fageråsen: Developed by OX2, Eolus and Dala Vind, the 132 MW project is located in Malung-Sälen, Dalarna. Construction began at the start of this year and is currently underway.
- Boarp (Saena portfolio): Developed by Eolus and owned by Mirova, the 17.5 MW project is located in Vaggeryd, Jönköping.
- Dållebo (Saena portfolio): Developed by Eolus and owned by Mirova, the 18 MW project is located in Ulricehamn, Västra Götaland.
- Fågelås (Saena portfolio): Developed by Eolus and owned by Mirova, the 31.5 MW project is located in Hjo, Västra Götaland.
The three projects in the Saena portfolio are already operational and supply carbon-free electricity to the Swedish grid. Meanwhile, construction is underway at Fageråsen.
Adding new capacity to the grid
Amazon said investments in new carbon-free energy projects can provide benefits beyond the company’s own operations by adding additional generation to the electricity grid used by households, hospitals, schools and businesses.
The company also highlighted the role of wind power projects in supporting energy infrastructure and local economies. According to Amazon, its energy investments in Sweden have contributed billions of Swedish kronor to GDP and created hundreds of local jobs.
The company added that new renewable energy projects can help support the modernisation of energy infrastructure and contribute to keeping electricity costs stable and affordable for households and businesses.
Amazon expands its carbon-free energy portfolio
In 2025, Amazon was the largest corporate buyer of carbon-free energy in Sweden, according to the company. Globally, it has invested in more than 700 carbon-free energy projects, representing a portfolio of more than 40 GW, which Amazon describes as the largest of any company worldwide.
“Sweden is already a leader in carbon-free energy, and we want to contribute to that development. Our investments in wind power here are part of how we help bring more carbon-free energy to the grid,” Toygar said.
The investments form part of Amazon’s wider climate strategy to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2040. In Europe alone, the company has invested in more than 260 projects that have added more than 10 GW of new carbon-free energy capacity.
