THAT’S THE INVESTMENT CALIFORNIA HAS MADE TO EXPAND SAFER, MORE CONNECTED OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE TO BIKE AND WALK ACROSS OUR GREAT STATE. THAT INCLUDES NEARLY $5 BILLION IN AWARDS FOR ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS STATEWIDE. THE GROUP CALLED THE SACRAMENTO AREA BICYCLE ADVOCATES, REPRESENTS SIX LOCAL COUNTIES. THEY SAY THE AVERAGE TRIP FOR RUNNING ERRANDS IS ESTIMATED TO BE ONLY 1 TO 3 MILES FROM YOUR HOUSE, AND IT WOULD BE AN EASY SWAP JUST TO BIKE AND WALK INSTEAD OF DRIVE. WITH THAT TYPE OF ENCOURAGEMENT IN MIND, GROUPS ARE HIGHLIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS MADE LOCALLY. TODAY, A LEADERSHIP RIDE WILL BE HELD STARTING IN WEST SACRAMENTO, HIGHLIGHTING THE CONTINUED FOCUS ON BUILDING A MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM ACROSS CALIFORNIA. STATE AND LOCAL LEADERS ARE SET TO MAKE REMARKS BEFORE A SEVEN MILE RIDE FROM CALTRANS HEADQUARTERS, THEN TO WEST SACRAMENTO AND ALL THE WAY BACK. CALTRANS SAYS STATISTICS GATHERED FROM 2024 SHOWS 163 CYCLISTS DIED IN TRAFFIC COLLISIONS, WHICH SERVES AS A REMINDER THAT SAFETY REMAINS CRITICAL AS AN ISSUE FOR CYCLISTS ACROSS CALIFORNIA.
