BJP Tamil Nadu chief calls Vijay’s London trip a pleasure tour, denies new investments
Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s recent visit to London, describing it as a “pleasure tour” and disputing claims of securing new industrial investments for the state.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Wednesday, Nagendran alleged that the state government misled the public by presenting existing companies as fresh foreign investments resulting from the trip. He said, “Chief Minister Vijay’s London trip should be seen only as a pleasure tour. It is a complete lie that Chief Minister Vijay brought investments to Tamil Nadu. They are pointing out already existing companies as new industrial investments.”

He also contrasted the Chief Minister’s cinematic persona with his governance, stating, “As an actor, Vijay made a film as a friend of fishermen, but now as Chief Minister, he is trying to bring the Secretariat to Pattinapakkam against the fishermen,” claiming that the proposed move disregards the interests of the local fishing community.
These remarks were made at an event in Guindy, Chennai, where Nagendran and other BJP leaders paid floral tributes to the statue of freedom fighter and politician SS Ramasami Padayatchiyar on his 109th birth anniversary.
Meanwhile, a planned meeting between Chief Minister Vijay and members of the Tamil community in London was cancelled following directions from the London Metropolitan Police. The Information Technology Wing of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam stated on X that the meeting was called off due to public safety concerns.
The post added, “We know that the Tamil community in London is eager and filled with heartfelt affection to meet the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay. However, due to concerns regarding public safety and in deference to the request of the London Metropolitan Police, circumstances have arisen that prevent the Chief Minister, the victorious leader, from meeting you. We therefore earnestly request that no one attempts to meet him.”
The IT Wing also urged community members to refrain from gathering outside the hotel where the Chief Minister was staying or along his travel routes, stating, “We humbly ask that you refrain from waiting outside the hotel where he is staying or along the routes he travels.”
