Employees at the Pljevlja Coal Mine, despite numerous challenges in the previous year, maintained production continuity and responded to challenges, all with the aim of preserving the stability of the Montenegrin power system.
This was announced at a ceremonial session dedicated to Miners’ Day, marking the 74th anniversary of the Coal Mine, which was held in the presence of representatives of the Government, energy and local communities, local self-government, business associates, miners and representatives of economic and social life.
“The meeting once again emphasized that the employees of the Coal Mine knew that, despite numerous challenges in the previous year, such as the eight-month shutdown of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TPP), complex working conditions and problems with floods and weather conditions, they could maintain production continuity and respond to challenges, all with the aim of preserving the stability of the power system,” the statement said.
The General Manager of the Coal Mine, Nemanja Laković, expressed special gratitude to all employees for their dedicated work and sacrifice, promising to continue improving their material status and working conditions.
“Today we can say that we emerged from the previous year more stable and prepared. I will not be modest and say that we emerged from the crisis as survivors, but I proudly say that emerging from the crisis also brought an exit from old business patterns, consolidation, greater determination and more efficient management,” Laković emphasized.
One of the most significant projects in the past period was the project to relocate the Ćehotina riverbed, 3,2 thousand meters long. The project was completed in record time, with the water permit obtained, which created the conditions for the safe continuation of coal exploitation.
“That’s why this project is proof that when we have a clear goal and when we work together, we can respond to even the most demanding challenges,” added Laković.
In addition to stabilizing business operations, it was noted that the company is looking to the future by initiating business transformation, and that through the development of new capacities, attracting investments and creating new jobs, conditions are being created for young and professional people to stay and build the future in Pljevlja.
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Filip Ivanović, emphasized that the company will always have the support of the executive branch.
“The government has allocated 113 million euros for projects in Pljevlja, and support for the development and transformation of the Pljevlja region will continue through the Just Transition Plan and the company’s business transformation, which has been recognized and praised by European Union (EU) officials. We will support everyone in harmonizing the EU acquis, so that Montenegro can readily join the Union in 2028,” said Ivanović.
The General Director of the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Zdravko Dragaš, said that the Coal Mine in EPCG will always have a reliable partner, while EPCG will have a reliable and strong support in the Coal Mine.
“The people who have been responsible for Montenegro’s energy security for decades must have their place in its energy future. We have the basis to build that future with confidence. Pljevlja has the knowledge. Rudnik has the experience. EPCG has the capacity to invest and develop. Projects such as the relocation of the Ćehotina riverbed have shown that together we can realize even the most complex undertakings,” said Dragaš.
Representatives of management and unions jointly nominated this year’s winners of the Best Worker award.
