Deborah Wardle Named International CIO at Mercer

Deborah Wardle

Mercer announced Monday the promotion of Deborah Wardle to international CIO, leading investment teams across the U.K., Europe, India, the Middle East and Asia. Wardle’s appointment is effective immediately.

Based in London, Wardle reports to Niall O’Sullivan, who was appointed global CIO in April. As international CIO, Wardle succeeds Garvan McCarthy, who was elevated to the newly created role of global alternatives CIO.

“Deb is a natural leader with deep investment expertise and a strong understanding of how to deliver outcomes for clients,” O’Sullivan said in a statement. “Her breadth of experience across traditional and alternative investments, together with her portfolio management expertise, positions her well to lead our international investment teams through the next phase of our growth.”

Wardle has been at Mercer for nearly 16 years, most recently holding titles such as CIO for EMEA and Asia, head of portfolio management for EMEA, and U.K. alternatives leader.

“As I step into this role, I look forward to working closely with my colleagues to build on that strong foundation and position us to continue delivering for our large asset owner clients in this ever-evolving investment environment,” Wardle said in a statement.

Wardle earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of Nottingham in the U.K.
