IKEA explores new investments in Haryana as Rs 4,000-crore Gurugram project gathers pace

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is exploring fresh investment opportunities in Haryana while advancing its proposed Rs 4,000-crore mixed-use project in Gurugram, according to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
A Swedish delegation led by IKEA India CEO Patrik Antoni met the chief minister in Chandigarh to review the progress of the Gurugram project and discuss the company’s future investment plans in the state.
According to Saini, the project entails an investment of approximately Rs 4,000 crore and is expected to generate around 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The delegation also expressed its willingness to recruit talent through the Haryana Foreign Cooperation Department.
“Today, in Chandigarh, I met with the Swedish delegation that arrived under the leadership of IKEA India CEO Patrik Antoni. During the meeting, information was shared regarding the progress of the approximately Rs 4,000-crore project being established by IKEA India in Gurugram, and discussions were held on future investment opportunities in Haryana. Creating maximum employment opportunities for the youth of the state through new investments is the priority of the state government,” Saini said in a post on X.

The proposed Gurugram development, spread across nearly 10 acres, will house an IKEA retail store, office spaces and community-focused facilities under one roof. The project is expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs once operational.
The discussions come as IKEA continues to expand its presence in India despite reporting wider losses. According to the company’s FY25 financials, its loss widened to Rs 1,325.2 crore, while revenue from operations declined 3.3% year-on-year to Rs 1,749.5 crore.
Even as revenue moderated, IKEA stepped up its brand-building efforts. Advertising and sales promotion expenses increased 14.1% to Rs 223.9 crore in FY25 from Rs 196.3 crore a year earlier.
IKEA currently operates stores in Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Worli (Mumbai), Bengaluru, Delhi and Pune, and has been expanding its omnichannel retail footprint across India.
