Justin Onuekwusi appointed CEO, investments of St. James’s Place

St. James’s Place’s Justin Onuekwusi has been appointed CEO, investments, at the firm.

Onuekwusi, who joined SJP in 2023 as its CIO, has been covering the role since January, while Tom Beale was on compassionate leave. Now that Beale has decided to move on, Onuekwusi has adopted the role on a permanent basis.

In his new expanded role, the CEO, investments, will lead the investment directorate, which oversees investment strategy, platform innovation and fund governance, as well as the firm’s discretionary fund management arm.

Prior to joining SJP, Onuekwusi worked at Legal & General Investment Management for more than a decade as head of retail multi-asset funds and, latterly, as head of retail investments EMEA. He has also held fund management, research and analyst roles at Aviva Investors, Merrill Lynch and Aon Consulting, over a career spanning more than 20 years.

Mark FitzPatrick, CEO at St. James’s Place, said: “Justin has had an enormous impact since joining St. James’s Place in 2023, having quickly established himself as a leader and role model for colleagues.

“This has included playing a significant role in strengthening our investments proposition, a key differentiator for clients that sets St. James’s Place apart. I’m excited to continue working with Justin and our talented teams to further build our investment capabilities.

“I would also like to thank Tom for the contribution he has made to our investment directorate over many years and wish him the best for the future.”

Onuekwusi added he is “honoured” to be appointed to the new role on a permanent basis.

“Over the past three years we have built a stronger, broader investment proposition for clients, strengthened our investment capabilities and continued to evolve the SJP fund platform,” he said. “None of this would have been possible without the expertise, dedication and commitment of colleagues across Investments and the wider business.

“It is a privilege to be responsible for helping manage our clients’ assets and supporting their long-term financial goals. Looking ahead, we will continue to focus on investment excellence, innovation and delivering the best possible outcomes for clients.”
