Mexico and Brazil Strengthen Economic Ties; Foreign Minister Seeks New Investments

In São Paulo, Brazil, Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco met with business leaders from that country to keep exploring investment avenues, as well as to reiterate the importance and opportunities that Plan México offers for the growth and development of our nation.

In a communiqué, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that the meetings included the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo, Antonio Skaf; executives of the aeronautics company Embraer; and executives of Mexican firms and business chambers in Brazil.

These meetings took place as part of the working visit that Velasco made to the South American country, where he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and co-chaired the VI Binational Commission with Mauro Vieira, Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

As part of his activities, in Brasília he visited the Rio Branco Institute, the prestigious diplomatic academy, where he gave a lecture on Mexico and its foreign policy toward Latin America.

He also held a meeting with the Mexican community, to whom he reiterated the Foreign Ministry’s support and “President Claudia Sheinbaum’s precise instruction that fellow nationals abroad are the top priority of foreign policy.”

At the Mexican embassy, where the meeting was held, he was accompanied by Ambassador Carlos García de Alba and the consuls general in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the latter joining remotely. There, the launch of a virtual mental-health service window for the Mexican community living in this country was announced.

“Foreign Minister Velasco’s working visit reflects the great moment the diplomatic relationship is experiencing and the shared interest in consolidating ties with a strategic partner in this region,” the SRE stated.
