Nuclear Energy:
Today, nuclear energy provides nearly 50% of the United States’ carbon free electricity. However, recent closures of nuclear reactors across the nations have diminished use of this energy source and contributed to increased carbon emissions.
President Biden recognizes the importance of nuclear energy and its preservation for our nation. That’s why the Administration is providing millions of dollars to support nuclear energy facilities.
For example, through the Department of Energy’s Civil Nuclear Credit Program, the Biden-Harris Administration allocated $6 billion to ensure that Diablo Canyon Power Plant continues operating safely to provide Americans power and jobs.
The Biden-Harris Administration recognizes the contributions of our nation’s existing nuclear reactor fleet in providing reliable, clean power to millions of households. The nation’s current fleet of nuclear power plants is vital to achieving the nation’s goals of a carbon pollution-free electricity sector by 2035 and net-zero emissions economy-wide by 2050.
These are just some of President Biden’s and America’s renewable energy advancements. With continued efforts and enthusiasm, the clean energy future is no longer just a possibility. It’s becoming reality.
