New investments coming to Oshawa’s GM assembly plant as part of Unifor’s tentative deal

Details have been released regarding the tentative agreement reached between Unifor and General Motors (GM) for workers at the Oshawa assembly plant and other GM plants across Ontario.

Some of the items negotiated by Unifor mentioned Oshawa specifically.

Among those are new investments for the Oshawa and St. Catharines plants that will provide job security.

Regarding the Oshawa plant specifically a layoff mitigation plan was negotiated and is to be completed by Canada Day 2027.

Negotiators also successfully lobbied for three per cent wage increases annually over the next three years, new health care benefits and coverage, cost of living adjustments, better wage progression for members with less than four years, eligibility for a short work week after 1 year, pension increases, improved quarterly payments to retirees and surviving spouses and a renewed no closure commitment.

The ratification vote for this deal is taking place and the results of the vote will be released once the final tally is completed.
