‘Our employees are our greatest asset’: Fidelity Investments ranks No. 3 in Top Workplaces large category

At Fidelity Investments, employees take pride in helping customers achieve life’s biggest financial milestones.

That’s why Fidelity is this year’s No. 3 Top Workplace within the large company category, marking its eighth year as a winner.

Fidelity Investments, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the world’s largest financial services companies. It helps individuals, businesses and institutions manage their money and retirement plans through a wide range of investment and banking offerings.

The company has two New Mexico locations — a public-facing investor center and a regional office in Albuquerque. Notable benefits that Fidelity offers its 1,365 local employees include a generous 401(k) match, charitable giving match and a first-of-its-kind student loan assistance program.

In an Energage survey, New Mexico employees said they feel that they have a good work-life balance, find purpose in helping people reach their financial goals and are able to grow and advance within the company.

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Fidelity’s Senior Vice President Matt Tracy. It has been edited and condensed for clarity.

How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership style is rooted in listening, transparency and helping people grow. I focus on creating an environment where associates feel supported and empowered to build skills, take on new challenges and reach their full potential.

How do you view your employees and the role they play in shaping Fidelity Investments?

Our employees are our greatest asset and the driving force behind our success. Their expertise, adaptability and customer-obsessed mindset enable us to deliver for our customers at the highest level.

What’s something about working at Fidelity that you think most people would be surprised to learn?

One thing that often surprises people is our intentional focus on career mobility within the associate experience. We believe a great customer experience starts with associates who are engaged, challenged and fulfilled by dynamic careers that evolve with them. We encourage associates to pursue new roles and experiences in the spirit of career vitality, which is an associate-driven approach supported by managers, coaching and development opportunities.

What are the biggest challenges facing your industry today, and how is Fidelity adapting and providing stability for employees?

Consistent with our history through various economic and market environments, Fidelity is focused on financial discipline and strong business performance over the long term to ensure we can continue to introduce innovative products and services that meet the needs of our customers. We are operating from a position of strength and stability, even in times of change and uncertainty.

What is the most rewarding part of the work Fidelity does?

The most rewarding part of our work is helping people build better financial futures. Since Fidelity’s founding, now 80 years ago, our mission has been to strengthen the financial wellbeing of our customers and deliver better outcomes for the clients and businesses we serve. That impact extends even beyond our clients and businesses and into our communities. Our associates are deeply engaged in the communities where they live, work and serve. In 2025, 49% of New Mexico associates participated in volunteer opportunities.

What are some characteristics that define Fidelity’s company culture, and how do you go about maintaining that?

We encourage a culture of learning and development in which our associates can have a wide range of experiences and career paths without leaving the company. The opportunity to build new skills, form new connections and gain a deeper understanding of the business creates real career vitality. This focus on development is central to why people build long, meaningful careers here.

In a world where numbers, data and technology influence almost every part of life, especially business decisions, how do you make sure the human side of the work doesn’t get lost?

While data and technology are critical, we believe they should complement, not replace, the human element of our work. We stay grounded in that by investing in our associates and using technology and innovation to enhance how we serve customers and support our people.

What’s next for Fidelity, and what message do you have for employees about the future?

We’re focused on continuing to grow, innovate and deliver for our customers while staying committed to our associates. As we look ahead, we’ll continue investing in our people and capabilities to meet evolving customer needs and drive long-term success.
