Property transfers: Buc-ee’s closes on $2.6 million land purchase in Madison Twp.

MADISON TOWNSHIP — Buc-ee’s land purchase for its proposed Mansfield travel center is now official.

Property transfers show Buc-ee’s Mansfield LLC purchased 37.5 acres from Charles E. Ross, administrator of the estate of Peter G. Ross, for $2.625 million — roughly $70,000 per acre.

The property sits at the I-71/Ohio 39 interchange, where the Texas-based travel center chain plans to build its second Ohio location, a sprawling travel center that will employ 200 full-time employees when it opens.

The project has been one of the area’s most closely watched developments, drawing months of public meetings, debate and government approvals.

The sale follows the failure of a referendum petition that sought to place the land annexation before Mansfield voters. With the land purchase complete and local approvals in place, the project can continue moving toward construction.

The likely next public step is when the company brings its design plans to the city Planning Commission.
