Qatar’s Emir praises Greece’s economy, signals new investments during Mitsotakis meeting

Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed the Emir of Qatar to Athens on Wednesday, with both leaders highlighting strengthening bilateral ties, regional stability, and new investment opportunities during talks at the Maximos Mansion.

The meeting took place against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions, with discussions focusing on developments in the wider region and the need to deepen economic cooperation between Greece and Qatar.
Focus on stability and regional dialogue
Mitsotakis emphasised the importance of maintaining open dialogue during a volatile period, thanking Qatar for its diplomatic efforts.
“I value the fact that you are here to discuss the concerning regional developments, as well as our bilateral economic cooperation, which keeps growing stronger,” the Greek prime minister said.
He also reaffirmed Greece’s consistent stance in the Gulf, noting that Athens has stood by its regional partners and supports efforts aimed at de-escalation.
“We appreciate your country’s efforts toward a ceasefire and the establishment of a sustainable peace, so that we can ensure permanent freedom of navigation in the region and overcome the consequences that are affecting all economies,” Mitsotakis added.
Strong confidence in Greek economy
Turning to the economy, Mitsotakis pointed to Greece’s recent performance, highlighting fiscal progress and growth.

“I welcome Qatar’s commitment to invest in Greece. Our economy has made major strides. We have recorded the largest debt reduction as a percentage of GDP in OECD history and are growing faster than other EU countries,” he said, expressing optimism for a “new chapter” in bilateral economic relations.
Qatar signals more investment interest
The Emir echoed the positive tone, thanking Greece for its support and praising the country’s economic trajectory.
“I want to thank you and your country for standing by your friends in this conflict. We appreciate your country’s efforts,” he said, adding that recent communication between the two sides has been frequent.
Highlighting the strength of bilateral ties, he noted: “We are very happy with these relations,” while confirming that Qatari investments in Greece are progressing successfully.
“Your economy is performing well under your leadership,” the Emir added, expressing interest in expanding investment activity. “We also look forward to new investment opportunities in your country.”
Strengthening ties amid global uncertainty
Both leaders agreed on the importance of reinforcing cooperation in a rapidly changing global environment.
“Looking at what is happening in the world, it is important that we further strengthen these ties,” the Emir concluded.
The meeting signals a renewed push to deepen Greece–Qatar relations, with investment, energy, and regional stability expected to remain central pillars of cooperation in the coming years.
