He grew up in a small town in Suffolk, England, but where does Ed Sheeran live now that he’s an international pop star with four Grammy wins and 17 nominations under his belt? Well, not far from where it all began. The singer-songwriter, who is currently on tour, mainly resides at a rural compound just outside of Framlingham, the tiny historic town where he was raised.
Though he maintains a base close to home, Sheeran has bought real estate around the globe, including an impressive range of investment properties (if you live in London, there is a small chance that he could be the landlord of your home or office building). Below, we explore all of the places where the musician rests his ginger head.
Rural English estate
Fresh off the release of his debut album, Plus, in 2012, Sheeran began assembling his primary residence, a sprawling compound near his hometown of Framlingham in Suffolk, England. According to The Sun, his first purchases there were a $1.2 million farmhouse and the $600,000 16th-century house next door. In 2016, he added on a neighboring four-bedroom farmhouse for $1.25 million; an adjacent $708,000 bungalow was added the following year. Finally, in 2019, Sheeran married his longtime girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, and the couple bought out the home of another neighbor, who reportedly complained about the compound’s ongoing renovations. In total, the five houses that make up their 16-acre estate cost a reported $5 million.
In addition to its numerous houses, the property plays host to a number of unique amenities, including a treehouse, a pond, a chapel, a crypt where Sheeran plans to be buried, and a private pub. Sheeran confirmed the existence of the latter on the podcast Call Her Daddy in April. “I bought an old pub off eBay,” the singer told host Alex Cooper, explaining that fame prevents him from going out to his favorite local spot. He installed the watering hole inside of an existing barn on the property, connecting it to the main house with a tunnel equipped with a listening room and movie theater. “It’s less of a man cave and more of a man catacombs,” the musician explained of the underground space, which is decorated with Sheeran’s movie memorabilia collection. “I know it sounds weird to sort of build an infrastructure on your property where you don’t have to leave it,” he admitted to the podcast host, adding that there are “certain moments you just want to spend with your family and not have someone filming you while you’re doing it.”
This remains the couple’s primary home, where they reside with their two children.
Nashville lake house
Drawn to the music, laid-back lifestyle, and privacy of Tennessee, Sheeran moved to a house outside of Nashville in February 2013. The Music City “is full of very, very nice people,” the singer said at the time, adding that it gave him reprieve from the paparazzi and reminded him of his childhood in rural Suffolk. Though the atmosphere was relaxing, Sheeran kept himself busy, writing music at the lake house in Hendersonville, a suburb about 17 miles outside of Nashville. “I’ve demoed 70 songs,” he told Rolling Stone that September. “I’m hoping to release three [albums] in three years.” Sheeran’s second studio album, Multiply, was released in 2014, followed by the compilation album 5 in 2015, and Divide in 2017.
It’s not clear exactly how long the singer-songwriter lived in Tennessee, but he apparently longs to return to the Southern state—for good. “Nashville is like my favorite city in the States,” Sheeran told Cooper. “It’s always been like my end goal. I’m going to move to Nashville and transition to country [music], but I think you just have to do it properly. It’s a genre you have to really respect, and it’s not just a dip in and out.”
