City of Madison not moving forward with digital currency mining facility plan

MADISON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The City of Madison, South Dakota, has announced that it will not be moving forward with the proposed digital currency mining facility.

The proposed facility had been under discussion with Giga Energy, and talks were moving in the direction of finalizing an Electric Service Agreement and Land Lease Agreement.

However, the City learned that Giga Energy’s strategic direction had changed, and that it did not align with the City’s requirements for the project.

One of Giga Energy’s requirements was that electric services in the city remain interruptible.

Because of this, the City has decided that the project will not move forward.

The City says that they are continuing to look for opportunities to strengthen the community and support growth while meeting the interests of Madison residents.
