Stock Market HIGHLIGHTS: Domestic equities began the August series on a strong note, with bulls driving broad-based gains across sectors. The Sensex jumped 889 points to 77,655, while the Nifty 50 climbed 265 points to close at 24,250. The Nifty Bank advanced 450 points and the Midcap index gained 511 points. IT stocks led the rally, with Infosys rising 4%, while HUL rebounded nearly 5%. L&T gained over 2% after maintaining its FY27 guidance, and metal stocks advanced strongly. Among movers, Kaynes Technology surged 12%, KPIT Tech gained 6%, while Phoenix Mills and CarTrade fell 6% and 5%, respectively. Here are the top highlights from the stock markets today:
The rally was led by information technology stocks, which continued to attract buying interest despite weakness in global chip-related counters, with Infosys rising 4%. Hindustan Unilever rebounded strongly, recovering most of Tuesday’s losses and ending nearly 5% higher. Larsen & Toubro gained over 2% after maintaining its FY27 guidance, while metal stocks also saw strong traction, with Hindalco, JSW Steel and Tata Steel gaining more than 2% each.
Among individual stocks, Adani Ports slipped despite reporting an in-line first-quarter performance, while Adani Enterprises added about 1%. Electronics manufacturing services (EMS) stocks witnessed strong buying, led by a 12% jump in Kaynes Technology. Swiggy and Eternal extended their gains, rising as much as 6%, while KPIT Technologies advanced 6% after delivering better-than-expected first-quarter results.
In the broader market, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, Divi’s Laboratories, PG Electroplast, Patanjali Foods and Kalyan Jewellers were among the top midcap gainers. On the downside, Phoenix Mills fell 6% after a subdued first-quarter performance, while CarTrade Technologies declined 5% on profit booking following its quarterly results. SML Isuzu surged 20% after the acquisition of Mahindra & Mahindra’s truck and bus portfolio.
