EbixCash expands wallet utility through BHIM UPI, eyes higher customer activation

EbixCash, one of India’s leading digital payments and fintech solutions providers, today announced that its Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) Wallet is now discoverable on BHIM UPI, enabling its over 14 lakh active wallet users to seamlessly link their wallet and make UPI payments using their wallet balance across merchants accepting UPI QR payments.

The integration represents a significant milestone in EbixCash’s digital payments journey, bringing its wallet into India’s interoperable UPI ecosystem. The wallet currently processes approximately ₹2 crore in monthly transaction value, with onboarding momentum of nearly 100 new users joining the platform every day.

By integrating with BHIM UPI, the EbixCash Wallet becomes part of customers’ existing UPI payment experience, allowing them to use their wallet balance for QR-code-based payments without relying on a separate payment journey. The move aligns with the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) vision of a more open, interoperable and inclusive digital payments ecosystem, enabling prepaid payment instruments to participate seamlessly within the UPI infrastructure.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Sharan Pardeshi, AVP – Product & Alliances, EbixCash, said, “Digital payments are increasingly moving towards interoperability, where customers expect the flexibility to use their preferred payment instrument across platforms. For a wallet business, discoverability on BHIM UPI is what turns stored value into everyday spending power, customers no longer need to think of their wallet balance as separate from their regular UPI payments. That shift is what will compound registrations, transaction volumes and merchant usage over the coming months.”

Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist, CareEdge Ratings based on the IIP Data

“It is comforting to note that India’s industrial sector has accelerated the growth momentum even amid global uncertainties and elevated energy prices. Industrial output increased by a strong 7.3% in June, taking the growth in Q1 FY26 to a healthy 5.8%. This performance was led by double-digit growth in electrical equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, textiles, food products and other non-metallic mineral products. From a used-based perspective, strong growth of 14% in capital goods in Q1 FY27, could reflect steady investment activity in the economy against an uncertain global economic backdrop.

Going forward the uncertain global environment and high input prices will continue to pose a risk for the industrial sector. The other critical factor will be progress of the monsoon and impact of the same on kharif production and rural demand. While it is still early to assess the impact of monsoon on rural demand, the improvement in kharif sowing data in last few weeks, is a positive development”.

IIP growth accelerates to 7.3% in June, led by electricity and manufacturing

IIP data by Prachi Kele, Lead Economist, PL Capital

“Overall, IIP growth accelerated to 7.3% YoY in June’26 from 5.1% in the previous month, exceeding the consensus estimate of ~5%. In line with our expectations, the expansion was driven by strong electricity generation (10.6% YoY) and healthy growth in manufacturing (7.8% YoY). Among use-based categories, investment-related goods outpaced consumer-related goods in production growth. Going forward, we remain watchful of the growth trajectory in both investment- and consumer-related goods.”
