Thursday’s big stock stories: What’s likely to move the market

Here’s what CNBC TV’s producers were watching and what’s on the radar for the next session. Weekly jobless claims Initial weekly jobless claims are due 8:30 a.m. ET. We’ll have the number live on ” Squawk Box .” The consensus is for 212,000. Of the traders following this on prediction market Kalshi, 30% think the number will come in above 210,000. Only 17% think it’ll be higher than 215,000. Get the real number on “Squawk Box” Thursday morning. Earnings reports live on ‘Squawk Box’ American Airlines is up about 29% in three months. The stock is down 21% from the July 2 high. CNBC’s Phil LeBeau will have the numbers and stock reaction. CEO Robert Isom will be live on “Squawk Box” in the 7 a.m. hour. Blackstone is down 5.3% in three months. Shares are off 35% from the September 2025 high. President and COO Jon Gray will be on “Squawk Box” live in the 8 a.m. hour. CNBC’s Leslie Picker covers the company and will have details throughout the day. Lockheed Martin reports around 6:30 a.m. CNBC TV’s Morgan Brennan covers the company and will have the numbers and stock reaction. The stock is down 7% in three months. The stock is down 25% from the March high. AAL 3M mountain American Airlines in the past three months Earnings reports live on ‘Closing Bell: Overtime’ at 4 p.m. Intel is up 57% in three months. The stock is down about 27% in July. StockStory, a new CNBC partner said this about Intel this week: “Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business will stay the course heading into earnings. Intel rarely misses Wall Street’s revenue estimates.” Implied volatility is high for Thursday: 12%. Implied volatility measures how much the market expects a stock’s price to move based on options pricing, but it doesn’t predict whether prices will go higher or lower. Alphabet We’ll follow up on Alphabet ‘s quarterly results Thursday starting at 5 a.m. on ” Morning Call ” with Morgan Brennan. The stock is down 3% after hours. Alphabet hit a high on May 18 , but it’s down 16% since then. The company beat revenue estimates in the second quarter, but its adjusted earnings per share missed expectations. Alphabet is reporting big capital expenditures guidance as it tries to keep pace in the AI race. GOOGL 3M mountain Alphabet shares in the past three months Tesla The stock is down 4% after hours. Tesla is down about 17% so far in 2026.
