Five appointments across the UK insurance market span industry fundraising, regional commercial underwriting, London specialty lines and property direct and facultative.
IUAD welcomes James Boyce to its board
Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) has appointed James Boyce, CEO of global specialties at Marsh, to its board as the industry-led campaign approaches its 2030 target of raising £20 million for Alzheimer’s Society.
IUAD officially reached its initial £10 million fundraising goal earlier this year, with the campaign now entering what its board describes as a second phase of growth ahead of its tenth anniversary in 2027. Nearly half of the more than 300,000 people working in the UK insurance sector will be affected by dementia in their lifetime, either directly or through a loved one, according to Alzheimer’s Society.
Boyce will support IUAD’s engagement across the insurance and reinsurance markets and help identify fundraising opportunities. In his new role, he will focus on broadening the campaign’s reach into the reinsurance market.
Chris Lay, chair of the IUAD board, said Boyce joined at an important time as the campaign worked toward its 2027 anniversary and its 2030 target. “Due to the growing prevalence of dementia, there are sadly many first-hand experiences of the condition within the industry,” he said. “We hope that personal connection will galvanise even more colleagues from across the sector to lend their support to IUAD.”
Boyce said he was proud to join a campaign that had already brought the industry together behind a cause affecting many families, peers and communities. “I look forward to helping broaden engagement across the reinsurance market and supporting the campaign’s continued growth,” he said.
Charlotte Matier, Alzheimer’s Society’s associate director of high value and strategic partners, said the campaign had demonstrated the power of collective action. “Over the past 10 years, this campaign has brought the sector together around an issue that touches millions of lives,” she said.
Arch Insurance promotes Mick Gladding in London & Home Counties
Arch Insurance’s UK regional division has promoted Mick Gladding (pictured, left) to regional underwriting manager for London & Home Counties. Based in St Albans, he reports to Janice Mullan, regional manager.
Gladding brings almost 40 years of underwriting experience to the role, having joined Arch in 2022 as a senior underwriter in its St Albans team. He has previously held underwriting positions at Covéa Insurance, Towergate, Doulton Underwriting Agency and RSA.
Mullan said Gladding was highly regarded in the local market, with a strong track record of building relationships with Arch’s strategic broker partners. “His experience will be instrumental in delivering our plans to expand our underwriting appetite and strengthen collaboration across the London & Home Counties region,” Mullan said.
TMK adds Daisy Altwegg and promotes Iwan Jenkins in CPRI
Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has appointed Daisy Altwegg (pictured, centre) and promoted Iwan Jenkins (pictured, right) to lead its London credit, political risk and investment (CPRI) team, both reporting to James Wilson, departmental head of special risks.
Altwegg joins from Everest Insurance, where she was head of credit and political risk for Europe. She brings more than 15 years of experience across SCOR, Aspen Insurance and Hiscox, with particular expertise in asset-backed finance. Jenkins, who joined TMK in September 2025, steps into an expanded leadership role following what the firm describes as an exceptional first year in the business.
The two appointments follow the arrival of George Bibby in August 2026 and sit within TMK’s broader push to build out its special risks capabilities, which also cover political violence and terrorism, trade disruption insurance and transactional liability.
“Our aim is straightforward,” Wilson said. “We want brokers and clients to think of TMK when they need an engaged underwriting partner that can respond quickly, understand complex transactions and provide consistent support over the long term.”
Liberty Specialty Markets appoints Richard Richards as head of property D&F
Liberty Specialty Markets has appointed Richard Richards as head of property direct and facultative (D&F). Based in London, he reports to Kevin Demmon, divisional director, property, UK and MENA.
Richards brings more than 20 years of property D&F experience, including a decade at Chaucer Syndicates as a senior class underwriter. He previously held roles at Allianz and Zurich. The appointment follows Liberty’s creation of the property divisional director role in March 2026, when Demmon was brought in to oversee the UK commercial and D&F international portfolios.
Richards will lead the London property D&F team, overseeing the portfolio and setting the strategic direction for sustainable growth through underwriting performance.
Demmon said Richards’ knowledge across the D&F market would help Liberty continue to build its international property offering. “We are delighted to welcome Richard to the team as we continue to develop and enhance our property D&F portfolio,” he said.
